Arapahoe County's Marriage License Process

Arapahoe County has gone appointment-only at both its Aurora and Littleton offices due to demand, booked through an online Qmatic portal.

Arapahoe County has moved to appointment-only marriage license service at both of its offices, a change the county attributes to high demand rather than a permanent policy, so confirm it’s still in effect close to your travel dates.

Where to go

Both offices are open Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM, effective January 2026.

Appointment required at both offices

Per the county’s own notice, “due to high demand all Marriage and Civil Union License services are appointment only until further notice.” Book through the Qmatic booking portal.

Fill out the pre-application first

Arapahoe County offers an online pre-application form; complete it before your appointment. See how to fill in the license application for the general tips that apply here too.

If you don’t have a Social Security number

Arapahoe’s version is the “Affidavit to Accompany Application for Marriage License”, a downloadable PDF, and its signature block is set up for a County Clerk & Recorder or Deputy Clerk to administer it directly, meaning it can be handled in-office at your appointment if you’re both present. If one partner can’t appear in person, that partner’s portion needs to be notarized in advance instead; the county doesn’t notarize on behalf of someone who isn’t physically there. See the SSN affidavit, explained for the general picture.

What it costs

  • License fee: $30.
  • Card surcharge: $2 on top of the fee, if paying by credit or debit card. Cash and check avoid it.

Contact

  • Recording Division (marriage licenses): 303-795-4520
  • Email: [email protected] (response typically within 24 hours, per the county)

While you’re in the area

The Aurora office sits right at a crossing point of the High Line Canal Trail, a 71-mile historic irrigation-canal path popular for walking and biking through the Denver metro area. A reasonable stretch-your-legs stop before or after your appointment.
