Privacy Policy

This is a small, static informational site. There are no user accounts and no comments section. The only form on the site is the optional email signup in the footer. Here's exactly what does happen when you visit.

Analytics: cookieless by default

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to see which posts are actually useful. Before you make a choice on the cookie banner, and if you decline, it runs in a cookieless mode: it can still tell us basic, aggregate counts (how many people visited a page) but can't set a cookie, can't tie your visits together over time, and doesn't know you're a returning visitor. If you click "Accept," it switches on a cookie so it can measure things like sessions and returning visits. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage so you're not asked again.

Either way, Google Analytics collects standard, aggregate usage data (pages visited, general location at a country/region level, device and browser type) with IP anonymization turned on. We don't combine this with any other data source, and we don't sell it to anyone.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site (to travel eSIM, hotel/flight search, car rental, travel insurance, currency and payment services, name-change services, wedding rings, and outdoor apparel) are affiliate links, marked as such wherever they appear. If you book or sign up through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking one takes you to that company's own site, which has its own separate privacy policy and cookies we don't control.

When you click one of these links, this site keeps a simple count of it on our own server: which company's link it was, which page it was on, the time, and the country the visit came from. It doesn't set a cookie or store your IP address, and it can't be used to identify you. We use it only to see which links readers find useful.

Email signup

The footer has an optional email signup, if you'd like a copy of the planning checklist or to hear about new country pages. Entering your email submits it directly to our email service provider; we don't store it ourselves or combine it with analytics data. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. We don't sell or share this list with anyone.

What we don't do

• We don't run ads or ad-tracking scripts.
• We don't have user accounts, logins, or a comments system.
• We don't sell or share personal data, whether from the optional analytics above or the optional email signup.

Cookies and local storage

Beyond the optional Google Analytics cookie (only set after you accept), this site uses your browser's local storage for one thing: remembering your cookie-consent choice. You can clear this at any time through your browser's site settings, which will show the consent banner again on your next visit.

Who runs this site, and your data rights

This site is run by an individual, not a company. If you'd like to know what data is held about you (for example, in the email list), have it corrected, or have it deleted, email [email protected] and we'll handle it. You can also just unsubscribe directly using the link in any email.

Changes to this policy

If what this site collects or how it's used changes, we'll update this page. Since there's no account system to notify you through, check back here if you want the current version.
