Morgan County's Marriage License Process

A small, walk-in county on the South Platte: apply in person in Fort Morgan, no online pre-application, and a genuinely historic bridge nearby.

Morgan County is small enough that its process reads more like a plains-town courthouse visit than the appointment-driven systems in the Denver suburbs: no appointment portal, no online pre-application, just showing up in person during business hours.

Where to go

Morgan County Administration Building, 231 Ensign St, Fort Morgan, CO 80701. Open Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.

Walk in, no online pre-application

At least one applicant must apply in person before Recording staff; there’s no online pre-application system. The county does provide a printable/fillable application you can fill out ahead of time and bring with you, rather than starting from scratch at the counter. See how to fill in the license application for the general tips that apply here too.

A separate phone line, 720-219-9691, exists specifically to schedule a judge to perform the ceremony itself, which is a different service from applying for the license. Don’t confuse the two if you call ahead.

If you don’t have a Social Security number

Morgan County’s version is the “Affidavit Concerning Social Security Number”. The county’s page states it “may be signed and notarized in advance or signed in front of the Deputy County Clerk at time of application,” meaning it can generally be handled on the spot. See the SSN affidavit, explained for the general picture.

What it costs

License fee: $30, the statewide standard everywhere in Colorado, not something individual counties set. We couldn’t confirm which payment methods Morgan County’s office accepts, so call ahead to check before you go.

While you’re in Fort Morgan

The Rainbow Arch Bridge, a pedestrian bridge over the South Platte River, is a genuinely notable stop: built in 1922-23, it was the longest rainbow arch bridge in the world at completion and is on the National Register of Historic Places, the only bridge of its type in Colorado.

Quick answers

Do you need an appointment for a Morgan County marriage license?

The county's own page never uses the word 'appointment' for the license application itself, only requiring that at least one applicant appear in person during business hours, which points to walk-in service. A separate appointment line exists only for booking a judge to perform the ceremony.

Is there an online pre-application for a Morgan County marriage license?

No, but the county provides a printable, fillable application you can complete before your visit. Either way, at least one applicant must appear in person; a notarized absentee affidavit only applies to the narrow, statute-defined situations where one partner qualifies to be absent, not a general substitute for both partners attending.
